Just so you know, Young Adult is not a good Valentine’s day movie. It’s a good movie; a funny movie in a dark and painfully awkward kind of way, but it’s not a Valentine’s day movie. Even the Newsroom would’ve suited better, unfortunately we’ve run out of episodes.

This week I listened and finished an audiobook by John Green, An Abundance of Katherines. I like listening to audio books while I work and this one was a really solid coming-of-age story, with witty writing, humor and romance. It wasn’t as heart-gripping as The Fault In Our Stars from the same author, but that doesn’t make it a worse book, just different.

I hate leaving art projects unfinished, but it happens. And when it does happen, the projects usually stay unfinished because I hate picking up old work. I usually had a good reason to drop them in the first place, but there are few of them that I keep coming back to, again and again.

Like most people in creative arts, I start new projects like crazy and only stick with the most engaging and worthy ones. This sort of process is great for exploring ideas and styles and always keeping the process fresh and fun, but it’s also good to finish a project once in a while by concentrating on it properly.

When I look at my unfinished work, I feel regret; as if I’ve let these concept paintings down by not allowing them to shine. Hopefully I’ll return to them some day and grind them to finish. But for now they have to stay where they are, locked away in the chamber of unfinished projects.

Have a great weekend!
